Eight Trains to Begin Operations from Ashokapuram Station from February 16

A Major Boost for Rail Connectivity in Mysuru

In a significant development for Mysuru’s railway network, the upgraded Ashokapuram Railway Station is set to begin operations for eight major trains, previously running from the Mysuru City Railway Station. This transition will take effect from February 16, enhancing rail connectivity and reducing congestion at the city’s main railway hub.

The proposal, initiated by the South Western Railway (SWR) Division, has received approval from the Railway Ministry and the Railway Board. The inauguration of services will be conducted by Minister of State for Railways, V. Somanna, who will flag off the first train from Ashokapuram Station on February 15.

A Transformed Ashokapuram Station
The station has undergone a major upgrade costing ₹37.5 crore, transforming its infrastructure to better accommodate increased passenger traffic. Key upgrades include:

  • Expansion from three to five platforms
  • A newly constructed stabling line to facilitate train halts
  • A second entry gate
  • A new pedestrian foot-over-bridge

Pratap Simha’s Initiative

The revamp of Ashokapuram Station has been driven by Pratap Simha, Member of Parliament (MP) from Mysuru-Kodagu. During the inauguration of the station’s upgraded infrastructure, he emphasized that more train services will be added gradually to enhance Mysuru’s railway network further.

On March 4, 2024, the new entry gate and foot-over-bridge were inaugurated at the station’s yard, marking a milestone in its transformation.

Trains Shifting to Ashokapuram Station

The following trains will commence regular operations from Ashokapuram Railway Station starting February 16:

  • MGR Chennai Central – Mysuru Cauvery Express (16021/16022)
  • Mysuru – KSR Bengaluru City Malgudi Express (20623/20624)
  • Kacheguda – Mysuru Express (12785/12786)
  • MGR Chennai Central – Mysuru Express (12609/12610)
  • KSR Bengaluru – Mysuru MEMU (06255/06256)
  • KSR Bengaluru – Mysuru MEMU (06559/06560)
  • KSR Bengaluru – Mysuru MEMU (06257/06258)

What This Means for Mysuru Commuters

With this shift, train passengers in Mysuru—especially those residing in southern parts of the city—will have a more convenient railway station to board long-distance and intercity trains. The move will also help in decongesting the Mysuru City Railway Station, providing a smoother experience for travelers.

The operationalization of these eight trains from Ashokapuram Railway Station is just the beginning, with more additions expected in the future. This upgrade aligns with the growing transport needs of Mysuru and is a step forward in expanding the city’s railway infrastructure.
